Captain Roman Vitanza

Captain Roman Vitanza is the current commander of the Fort Worth Phoenix Composite Squadron, he leads the senior member and cadet members of the unit in fulfilling the nonprofit organization's three primary programs of emergency services, cadet programs, and aerospace education. In its role as the Air Force auxiliary, Civil Air Patrol also is a member of the Total Force, filling a critical role in Defense Support of Civil Authorities that includes preserving life, relieving suffering, and providing training support.

Vitanza received an appointment to serve as a marketing and strategic communications officer focusing on public relations and branding in November of 2020, shortly afterward receiving an appointment to serve as the public affairs officer for Texas Wing in December 2020. During these assignments, he has worked on projects such as the national regulation changes, the national rebranding project, and the Public Affairs Commander's Dashboard. He also serves on the National Strategic Communication Advisory Committee, the National Crisis Response Team, and chairs the National Branding Committee.

Vitanza holds a senior mission observer rating, is a level 3 incident commander, public information officer, and one of few domestic operations awareness and assessment response tool operators. He has earned the Paul E. Garber Award, a graduate of the unit commander's course and the group commander's course, the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center Search and Rescue Management course, the National Inland Search and Rescue Planning course, and the Emergency Operations Center Intermediate Operations Course. He holds a master rating in public affairs and information technology, a senior rating in emergency services, cadet programs, personnel, and administration and has received his senior military emergency management system certification.

Outside of Civil Air Patrol, he works for American Airlines as a crew tracker, was a member of The Peace Corps in the Republic of Georgia teaching English to grade-schoolers, the Association for Computing Machinery, The Public Relations Society of America, and the Fraternity Communications Association. He was also appointed to Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia's national Branding, trademark, and licensing team within Fraternity Services.

He is a recipient of the President's Call to Service Lifetime Achievement Award, the MLK Jr. Drum Major of Service Award, The Leon Levine Foundation Award, two Major Howell Balsem Public Affairs Achievement Awards, the Exceptional Service Decoration, three wing commander's commendations, two region commander's commendations, The Colonel Bud Payton Public Affairs Officer of the Year, the Colonel Edwin W. Lewis, Jr Incident Commander of the Year, the Colonel DeCamp Ground Team of the year, and numerous academic honors and awards.

His wife, Aubrey Vitanza, is also a member of Civil Air Patrol and serves as a health services officer and an Emergency Medical Technician.

1st Lt Eric Erwin
Squadron Deputy Commander

1st Lieutenant Eric Erwin is one of the Deputy Commanders of the Fort Worth Phoenix Composite Squadron, he leads the senior members of the unit in fulfilling the nonprofit organization's three primary programs of emergency services, cadet programs, and aerospace education. In its role as the Air Force auxiliary, Civil Air Patrol also is a member of the Total Force, filling a critical role in Defense Support of Civil Authorities that includes preserving life, relieving suffering, and providing training support.

Erwin joined Civil Air Patrol in December of 2021. While volunteering with the squadron as a member, he was appointed to serve multiple roles such as communications officer, emergency services training officer, and logistics officer. Later on being requested to serve as one of the Deputy Commanders of the Squadron

Erwin currently holds mission base ratings as a mission staff assistant and mission radio operator. In addition to is staff qualifications, he is also qualified as a ground team member and an urban direction finding member. He holds technician ratings in both Communications, Emergency Services, and Cadet programs and is a graduate of the Training Leaders of Cadets program.

His son, William Erwin, is also a member of Civil Air Patrol.

 


  2nd Lt Joshua Bouldin
Squadron Deputy Commander for Cadets

2nd Lieutenant Joshua Bouldin is one of the Deputy Commanders of the Fort Worth Phoenix Composite Squadron, he leads the cadet members of the unit in fulfilling the nonprofit organization's three primary programs of emergency services, cadet programs, and aerospace education. In its role as the Air Force auxiliary, Civil Air Patrol also is a member of the Total Force, filling a critical role in Defense Support of Civil Authorities that includes preserving life, relieving suffering, and providing training support.

Bouldin joined Civil Air Patrol in August of 2023. While volunteering with the squadron as a member, he was appointed to serve multiple roles as cyber education officer, cadet programs officer, and emergency services officer. He has participated in Texas Wing Encampments and Group Airman Leadership Schools as a tactical officer.

Joshua currently holds technician ratings in Cadet Programs, Information Technology, Emergency Services, Personnel, and Aerospace Education, and is a graduate of the Training Leaders of Cadets program.

His son, Garrett Bouldin, is also a member of Civil Air Patrol

 

 Staff Sergeant Robert Andrews III
Squadron Non-Commissioned Officer

Staff Sergeant Robert Andrews III serves as the unit Non-Commissioned Officer Advisor. In this role, he provides leadership, management, and guidance in organizing, professional development, training, and utilization of the squadron’s NCO Corps members, participates in the decision-making process, as appropriate, on technical, operational, and organizational issues, works closely with their commander and their group’s NCO advisor and/or wing’s command NCO, perform other duties as directed by the squadron commander, encourage NCO mentorship of cadets and junior officer CAP members.

SSgt Andrews currently holds qualifications in mission staff roles, and is qualified as a ground team member and an urban direction finding team member. In addition, holds technician ratings in Aerospace Education, Emergency Services, and Health Services.

SSgt Andrews served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant from 1987 to 2009, during that time he earned an Associate in Fire Science and criminal justice, a Bachelor's in Fire Service management, his emergency medical technician, his HAM radio technician license, and his American Red Cross instructor license.

Outside of Civil Air Patrol, Andrews works for Amphibious Medics and an event medic.

His fiancé, Candy Corbin, is also a member of Civil Air Patrol and serves as a Administrative and Safety officer for the squadron.
